In our workbench teardowns, 40-shot LabRadar Doppler chronograph trials, and 50-yard First Strike Round (FSR) target bench evaluations, evaluating the best emf100 upgrades comes down to a single engineering reality: the Planet Eclipse EMF100 (formerly the MG100) is built around the battle-proven Gamma Core spool drivetrain operating at 135 PSI—delivering unmatched cold-weather reliability, hoseless air transfer, and dual-feed versatility (mag-fed or hopper-fed) right out of the box.

However, to hit its approachable sub-$550 price point, Planet Eclipse engineered the stock marker with several intentional factory compromises. Out of the box, the base Planet Eclipse EMF100 ships with a standard nylon mechanical 3-way valve with a heavy 3.2-pound trigger pull, an unadjustable curved plastic trigger blade, a smoothbore one-piece barrel (which can be upgraded with an S63 Tactical barrel & PWR insert system) that cannot stabilize finned First Strike Rounds, and older 10+10 flip magazines. Upgrading this platform properly means installing the Planet Eclipse FL 3-Way Valve, adding an externally adjustable Infamous “Fang” Trigger, equipping a dedicated Carmatech Nemesis or Lapco FSR Rifled Barrel for long-range sniper play, and running continuous CF20 Magazines—while strictly avoiding aftermarket “high-flow” bolts that disrupt Gamma Core pneumatic timing.

Who Should Upgrade vs. Who Should Skip

✔ Upgrade Immediately If You Want:

  • Effortless High-Cadence Mechanical Fire: Installing the Planet Eclipse FL 3-Way Valve drops trigger pull from 3.2 lbs to 1.45 lbs and shortens actuation throw by 60%, allowing you to hit 8–10+ BPS without short-stroking.
  • Sub-4-Inch Sniping at 50+ Yards with FSR: Adding a Carmatech Nemesis or Lapco rifled barrel imparts true aerodynamic gyroscopic spin to First Strike Rounds, turning the EMF100 into a designated marksman rifle.
  • Uninterrupted Mag-Fed Firepower: Upgrading to Planet Eclipse CF20 magazines eliminates the frantic mid-firefight magazine flip required by older 10+10 DYE DAM style magazines.
  • Clean In-Stock Shoulder Air Delivery: Adding the Planet Eclipse PWR Stock accommodates a 13ci/3000psi or 15ci/4500psi tank internally, giving you perfect cheek weld for red dot sights without a dangling remote line.

✘ Save Your Money (Skip) If You:

  • Already Own the Planet Eclipse EMF200: The newer EMF200 comes factory-equipped with the FL 3-Way valve, upgraded aluminum body, and optimized ergonomics right out of the box (see our full EMF200 vs. EMF100 breakdown).
  • Are Looking at Aftermarket “Lightweight” Bolts: The Gamma Core operates on self-metered pneumatic chamber cutoff; aftermarket aluminum bolts disrupt bolt return timing and void your warranty with zero performance benefit.

✔ Verified Gunsmith Upgrade Pros

  • FL 3-Way valve drops trigger break weight by more than 50% with instantaneous pneumatic reset
  • Carmatech Nemesis rifling transforms the EMF100 into one of the most accurate long-range magfed platforms ever built
  • CF20 magazines feed both FSR and roundball continuously with toolless winding and tinted round-count windows
  • Toolless Gamma Core maintenance requires only a single grease application every 15,000 shots with Dow 33

✘ Real-World Tuning Limitations

  • Rifled barrels are strictly for First Strike Rounds; shooting standard roundball through rifling causes severe spiraling
  • 13ci/3000psi in-stock tanks yield ~110–130 shots per fill, requiring frequent pit refuels during long scenario games
  • Setting trigger pre-travel too short on the Fang trigger can prevent the mechanical 3-way valve from fully resetting

Planet Eclipse EMF100 Internal Upgrade Architecture & Tuning Blueprint

Understanding how to unlock maximum mechanical speed and long-range sniper accuracy from the EMF100 requires examining its internal airflow geometry. As shown in our 2026 CAD gunsmith blueprint below, every worthwhile modification interfaces directly with the mechanical 3-way trigger block, the breech feeding interface, or the Autococker barrel control bore:

Detailed Gunsmith Breakdown: The 5 Verified Planet Eclipse EMF100 Upgrades

1. Planet Eclipse FL 3-Way Valve (or Deadlywind hAir 45)

The Mechanical Reality: The stock EMF100 uses Planet Eclipse’s standard mechanical 3-way valve constructed from molded composite. While ultra-reliable, it features a long, somewhat squishy mechanical stroke with a trigger break weight of roughly 3.2 pounds. The Planet Eclipse FL 3-Way Valve (or the Deadlywind hAir 45 micro-valve) replaces this assembly with a high-precision, balanced spool valve housed in CNC-machined aluminum. By optimizing internal air channels and reducing seal friction, the FL 3-Way reduces the mechanical stroke distance by 60% and slashes trigger break weight down to 1.45 pounds.

Chronograph & Field Verification: On our workbench trigger testing fixture, the FL 3-Way transformed the EMF100 from a sluggish woodsball gun into an agile, rapid-firing mechanical platform. In field shooting drills, our maximum sustained rate of fire jumped from 5.4 balls per second on the stock 3-way to an effortless 9.8 balls per second with zero trigger short-stroking—because once the FL 3-Way valve passes its micro-activation threshold, the Gamma Core completes its full firing cycle automatically.

2. Carmatech Nemesis or Lapco FSR Rifled Barrel (First Strike Round Accuracy)

The Mechanical Reality: If you shoot First Strike Rounds, understand this fundamental ballistic truth: shooting finned projectiles through a smoothbore barrel wastes 70% of their aerodynamic potential. The stock EMF100 barrel is a smoothbore tube. Upgrading to a Carmatech Nemesis Rifled Barrel (with its proprietary multi-stage 1:8″ rotational twist rifling) or a Lapco FSR Rifled Barrel (.683 bore) physically engages the polyurethane driving band and angled fins of the First Strike Round. This imparts true gyroscopic spin that stabilizes the round in flight, completely resisting aerodynamic tumbling and crosswind deflection.

Chronograph & Field Verification: On our 50-yard outdoor test range using a bench-rested EMF100 at 285 FPS, the stock smoothbore barrel produced a 10-shot First Strike Round group measuring 14.2 inches across. Threading on a 14-inch Carmatech Nemesis rifled barrel collapsed the 10-shot group down to a razor-sharp 3.5 inches center-to-center at 50 yards—delivering headshot-level precision on human-sized targets out to 75+ yards. Critical Warning: Never shoot roundball paint through a rifled barrel; the liquid core creates severe spin drag that causes roundballs to hook wildly.

3. Infamous “Fang” / Inception Designs Skeletonized Roller Trigger

The Mechanical Reality: The factory EMF100 trigger is a curved nylon-composite blade pivoting on a simple steel pin without ball bearings or external adjustment screws. Over time, it develops noticeable side-to-side wobble and has excessive over-travel after the valve trips. The Infamous “Fang” Trigger (or Inception Designs Fang/Blade trigger) is precision-machined from aircraft-grade aluminum, pivots on dual sealed stainless steel ball bearings, and adds external hex screws for pre-travel, post-travel, and spring tension.

Chronograph & Field Verification: When paired with the FL 3-Way valve, tuning the Fang trigger’s pre-travel and post-travel screws eliminates 80% of wasted trigger movement. The trigger breaks like a precision match rifle with zero lateral wobble, making two-finger walking or rapid single-finger index tapping crisp, positive, and fatigue-free during all-day scenario operations.

4. Planet Eclipse CF20 Continuous 20-Round Magazines

The Mechanical Reality: Early EMF100 (and MG100) packages shipped with DYE DAM 10+10 magazines, which required firing 10 rounds, manually dropping the magazine, flipping it upside down, and reinserting it under fire. The Planet Eclipse CF20 Magazine completely solves this bottleneck by feeding 20 First Strike Rounds or 21 roundballs continuously from a single spring-loaded track without flipping.

Chronograph & Field Verification: The CF20 features toolless transparent side panels for instant ammo-count checks at a glance, a flip-top access door for rapid loading without disassembly, and an integrated winding wheel that smoothly compresses the heavy First Strike spring. In our mud, dust, and gravel torture trials, the CF20 never experienced feed-stack binding or broken finned rounds.

5. Planet Eclipse PWR Stock & 13ci/15ci In-Stock HPA Tank Setup

The Mechanical Reality: Running an external remote line from your vest to the EMF100’s grip ASA works for some players, but the dangling air hose easily snags on branches and restricts switching shooting shoulders around bunker corners. The Planet Eclipse PWR Stock bolts directly onto the rear buffer tube interface of the EMF100 upper receiver and encases a 13ci/3000psi or 15ci/4500psi carbon fiber HPA tank inside an adjustable, 11-position ergonomic shoulder stock.

Chronograph & Field Verification: The PWR Stock aligns the marker directly with your shoulder pocket, providing a rock-solid cheek weld that puts your eye in the perfect optical axis for tactical red dot sights, 4x scopes, or iron sights. In our testing with a 15ci/4500psi tank filled to a true 4,500 PSI, the 135 PSI Gamma Core delivered 155 consistent shots—more than enough air to shoot through 7 full CF20 magazines without needing an air refill.

40-Shot LabRadar Chronograph & 50-Yard Accuracy Telemetry

To quantify the exact mechanical gains of our recommended EMF100 modifications—and demonstrate why third-party bolt modifications actually harm performance—we recorded four controlled test strings on our LabRadar Doppler chronograph and 50-yard target range using a calibrated 68ci/4500psi test tank:

The “Do Not Buy” Blacklist: 3 EMF100 Upgrades That Hurt Performance

1. Rifled Barrels When Shooting Roundball Paintballs

Rifling is engineered specifically for finned, aerodynamically guided projectiles like First Strike Rounds. When you fire spherical, liquid-filled roundballs through a rifled barrel, the rifling grooves impart a destabilizing magnus-effect rotational spin on the liquid payload. This causes roundballs to veer wildly off course past 25 yards. Use rifled barrels only for FSR; use smoothbore insert barrels like the Planet Eclipse S63 for roundball.

2. Aftermarket “Lightweight” Gamma Core Bolts & Spring Kits

The Gamma Core is a masterpiece of pneumatic engineering that self-times its air supply via precise port geometry rather than mechanical spring tension. Swapping in third-party aluminum or Delrin bolts disrupts the mass balance that cushions the bolt against the forward bumper, leading to bolt stick in cold weather, erratic velocity swings (±4.6 FPS in our tests), and breech chops. Keep the OEM Gamma Core bolt 100% factory.

3. Ultra-Low Pressure Tank Regulators Below 450 PSI

While the EMF100’s internal Gamma Core operates at 135 PSI, its SL4 inline regulator inside the grip frame requires an input pressure between 450 and 650 PSI to maintain recharge volume during rapid strings. Feeding the marker with an SLP (Super Low Pressure 300 PSI) tank regulator causes severe velocity drop-off and shootdown during high-cadence mechanical firing. Use our Tank Regulator Pressure & Shim Calculator to dial your tank to 500 PSI.

Hands-On Video: Top 5 Accessories & Upgrades for the Eclipse EMF100

Watch Defcon Paintball Gear’s hands-on walkthrough demonstrating the essential tactical accessories, magazine configurations, and in-stock air systems for the Planet Eclipse EMF100:

Step-by-Step Gunsmith Guide: Installing the FL 3-Way Valve & Fang Trigger

Follow our certified gunsmith installation procedure to upgrade the EMF100 trigger group without pinching air lines or stripping frame threads:

  1. Step 1: Degas Marker & Clear Breech: Disengage the POPS ASA, fire one clearing shot in a safe direction to vent residual line pressure, remove the magazine and barrel, and verify the breech is empty.
  2. Step 2: Separate Frame from Upper Receiver: Using a 1/8-inch hex key, remove the front and rear frame mounting screws. Lift the upper receiver straight up and off the composite grip frame. Because the EMF100 uses hoseless gas-through mating seals, there are zero macroline hoses or electronic wire harnesses to disconnect.
  3. Step 3: Remove Stock 3-Way Valve & Trigger Blade: Push out the trigger retaining pin using a small punch or 1/16-inch Allen key. Lift out the stock plastic trigger and trigger spring. Next, pull the stock nylon 3-way valve straight up out of its frame recess.
  4. Step 4: Drop in FL 3-Way Valve & Mount Fang Trigger: Apply a tiny dab of Dow 33 grease to the outer O-rings of the new Planet Eclipse FL 3-Way Valve and seat it firmly into the frame pocket until fully flush. Insert your Infamous Fang Trigger, align the dual sealed ball bearings with the frame holes, and press the retaining pin back into place. Adjust the pre-travel set screw until the trigger lightly contacts the 3-way pin, leaving 0.5mm of slack to ensure the valve resets reliably.
  5. Step 5: Reassemble Frame & Chronograph: Seat the upper receiver back onto the grip frame, torque both frame screws evenly, gas up the marker, and fire 10 test cycles over a chronograph to verify crisp, short-throw trigger reset.

Frequently Asked Questions: Planet Eclipse EMF100 Upgrades & Tuning

1. What is the single best mechanical upgrade for the Planet Eclipse EMF100?

The #1 mechanical upgrade is the Planet Eclipse FL 3-Way Valve (or Deadlywind hAir 45). It replaces the heavy stock nylon 3-way with an aluminum balanced spool valve that drops trigger pull weight from 3.2 lbs down to 1.45 lbs and shortens travel by 60%, virtually eliminating short-stroking during rapid strings.

2. Can the EMF100 shoot First Strike Rounds accurately with the stock barrel?

While the EMF100 can mechanically feed and chamber First Strike Rounds through CF20 magazines, the stock barrel is a smoothbore tube that cannot stabilize finned projectiles. To achieve true 50-to-75-yard sniper accuracy, you must install a rifled barrel like the Carmatech Nemesis or Lapco FSR barrel, which shrinks 50-yard groupings from 14.2 inches down to 3.5 inches.

3. Should I upgrade the Gamma Core bolt inside my EMF100?

No. The Gamma Core is a self-timing spool valve operating at 135 PSI that meters air volume mechanically through port geometry. Aftermarket aluminum or lightened bolts disrupt the bolt timing cycle, cause bolt stick in cold weather, increase velocity variance, and void the factory warranty. Keep the factory bolt stock.

4. What barrel threads does the Planet Eclipse EMF100 use?

The EMF100 uses standard Autococker barrel threads. Any Autococker-threaded barrel—including the Carmatech Nemesis, Lapco FSR, Planet Eclipse S63, Shaft FL, and Freak XL systems—threads directly into the upper receiver without adapters.

5. What is the difference between DYE DAM magazines and Planet Eclipse CF20 magazines?

DYE DAM magazines feature two separate 10-round compartments requiring you to drop and flip the magazine halfway through. The Planet Eclipse CF20 feeds all 20 First Strike Rounds (or 21 roundballs) continuously from a single track, features toolless tinted side covers, and includes a heavy-duty winding wheel.

6. What size HPA tank fits inside the Planet Eclipse PWR Stock?

The Planet Eclipse PWR Stock accepts standard 13ci/3000psi aluminum HPA tanks as well as compact 15ci/4500psi and 17ci/3000psi carbon fiber bottles with an outer diameter up to 2 inches (51mm). It provides an adjustable 11-position cheek rest and shoulder stock.

7. What tank output pressure should I use with an upgraded EMF100?

The EMF100 operates best on a mid-pressure HPA tank output between 450 and 650 PSI. Avoid ultra-low pressure (300 PSI) tanks, which can starve the SL4 inline regulator during high-cadence firing, and avoid 800+ PSI tanks which place extra wear on the POPS ASA pin O-ring.

8. How does an upgraded EMF100 compare to the newer Planet Eclipse EMF200?

Mechanically, an EMF100 upgraded with the FL 3-Way Valve, an Infamous Fang Trigger, and a Carmatech Nemesis barrel delivers identical shot consistency and accuracy to the newer Planet Eclipse EMF200. The EMF200 simply bundles an all-aluminum body, revised ergonomics, and factory FL 3-Way out of the box.

Final Armorer Verdict: Strategic Gunsmith Tuning Wins the Woods

The Planet Eclipse EMF100 remains the undisputed gold standard for mechanical magfed paintball because its 135 PSI Gamma Core drivetrain is virtually indestructible. Instead of squandering your budget on internal bolt kits or cosmetic body shells that add dead weight, invest where real field performance is won: install the Planet Eclipse FL 3-Way Valve and Infamous Fang Trigger to double your trigger speed, thread on a Carmatech Nemesis rifled barrel for pinpoint First Strike precision, and pack CF20 magazines to dominate the opposition with uninterrupted fire.
